Pengertian Tensile Strength

Tensile Strength, juga dikenal sebagai kekuatan tarik, adalah ukuran maksimum dari tegangan mekanis yang bisa ditahan oleh sebuah material saat diregangkan atau ditarik sebelum kehilangan bentuk aslinya – baik melalui patah atau perubahan bentuk permanen. Dalam kata lain, ini adalah kekuatan yang dibutuhkan untuk merobek atau merusak suatu material. Tensile Strength adalah resistensi material terhadap kekuatan yang berusaha menariknya atau merenggangkannya. Nilai ini sangat penting untuk insinyur dan desainer dalam menentukan material apa yang cocok untuk aplikasi tertentu, dimana kekuatan tarik adalah faktor kunci.

Tensile Strength biasanya diukur dalam unit Pascal (Pa), atau biasanya megapascal (MPa) dalam lingkungan penelitian dan industri. Dalam sistem Imperial, unit yang digunakan biasanya adalah pound per square inch (psi).
