Gunakan cleaner untuk membersihkan permukaan benda uji. Pastikan permukaan bebas dari penetrant sebelumnya atau sisa-sisa bahan kimia lainnya. Setelah permukaan bersih, biarkan mengering selama 1 menit atau lebih. Hal ini dilakukan agas indikasi yang terkena cairan dapat menguap.

Pengaplikasian Penetrant

Terapkan Penetrant dengan Merata

Oleskan lapisan penetrant secara merata ke seluruh permukaan benda uji. Biarkan penetrant meresap ke dalam cacat permukaan selama periode waktu yang ditentukan oleh standar atau produsen penetrant. Setelah itu, hapuskan penetrant yang berlebihan sesuai dengan metode pembersihan yang sesuai dengan prosedur yang diikuti.

Pastikan Suhu Optimal

Pastikan suhu benda yang akan diuji dan zat penetrantnya berada dalam rentang yang ditentukan, sekitar 10°C hingga 52°C (50°F hingga 125°F) selama proses pengujian.

Penerapan Metode

Zat penetrant dapat diaplikasikan melalui dua metode: penggunaan kuas atau penyemprotan, tergantung pada jenis penetrant yang digunakan.

Tahap Penyerapan

Biarkan zat penetrant meresap ke dalam permukaan selama minimal 5 menit untuk memastikan penetrasi yang memadai. Jika diperlukan, tambahkan penetrant di area yang akan diperiksa untuk memastikan kelembaban yang memadai selama proses penetrasi. Durasi pengujian (dwell time):

Durasi pengujian tergantung pada jenis penetrant yang digunakan dan karakteristik bahan uji. Waktu penyerapan penetrant (dwell time) biasanya berkisar antara 10 menit hingga 60 menit, tetapi mungkin lebih lama untuk material dengan porositas tinggi atau cacat yang sulit dideteksi. Selalu ikuti rekomendasi produsen penetrant untuk waktu penyerapan yang tepat.

Suhu yang diperbolehkan:

Suhu pengujian sangat mempengaruhi efektivitas PT. Suhu ideal untuk pengujian biasanya antara 10°C hingga 52°C (50°F hingga 125°F). Hindari pengujian pada suhu di luar rentang ini karena penetrant mungkin mengalami penguapan yang berlebihan atau beku, mengakibatkan hasil pengujian yang tidak akurat.

Aplikasi pengembang: Aplikasikan pengembang pada permukaan yang telah dibersihkan, dengan memperhatikan suhu yang diperbolehkan. Ikuti instruksi produsen mengenai waktu pengembangan yang diperlukan.

Inspeksi: Periksa permukaan menggunakan sumber cahaya yang sesuai (biasanya cahaya putih atau cahaya UV) untuk mendeteksi indikasi penetrant yang menunjukkan keberadaan cacat permukaan. Pastikan suhu permukaan dan lingkungan berada dalam rentang yang diperbolehkan.

Interpretasi, evaluasi, dan pembersihan akhir: Interpretasikan dan evaluasi indikasi yang ditemukan sesuai dengan kode dan standar yang berlaku. Catat hasil inspeksi dan buat laporan yang mencakup informasi tentang bahan uji, metode dan prosedur yang digunakan, serta hasil inspeksi. Bersihkan permukaan setelah inspeksi selesai, dan pastikan suhu permukaan kembali ke rentang yang diperbolehkan sebelum melanjutkan ke proses selanjutnya.

Macam-Macam Indikasi Uji Penetrant

Indikasi yang terbentuk pada proses Liquid Penetrant Testing dapat berupa indikasi cacat, seperti retak, porositas, dan kebocoran, atau indikasi non-cacat, seperti kontaminasi permukaan atau kesalahan proses. Penting untuk mengevaluasi indikasi dengan cermat dan membandingkannya dengan kriteria keberterimaan yang ditentukan oleh kode atau standar yang berlaku.

Indikasi pada uji Penetrant Test mungkin bervariasi tergantung pada jenis cacat permukaan yang ada pada bahan atau struktur. Berikut adalah beberapa macam indikasi yang umum ditemukan dalam Penetrant Test sesuai dengan ASME dan penjelasan teknis serta detail mengenai masing-masing indikasi:

ASME menetapkan syarat keberterimaan untuk indikasi Penetrant Test berdasarkan jenis indikasi (linear atau bulat) dan ukuran serta distribusinya.

Syarat Keberterimaan Penetrant Test

Syarat keberterimaan untuk Liquid Penetrant Testing bergantung pada kode atau standar yang berlaku, serta jenis material dan aplikasi yang diuji. Beberapa standar menentukan batasan ukuran dan jumlah cacat yang diizinkan, sementara yang lain memerlukan evaluasi lebih lanjut dengan metode NDT lainnya jika indikasi mencurigakan ditemukan.

Untuk menjelaskan secara teknis dan detail mengenai syarat keberterimaan Penetrant Test sesuai ASME, kita akan menggunakan contoh ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC) Section VIII Division 1 (tekanan bejana) yang menetapkan syarat keberterimaan Penetrant Test dalam Paragraf UG-93.

  2. Indikasi bulat (misalnya lubang atau porositas terisolasi) tidak dapat diterima jika diameter indikasi melebihi 3/32 inci (2,4 mm) atau jika jumlah indikasi bulat dalam jarak 12 inci (305 mm) melebihi lima.
